Serial rapist heading back to Malaysia on Sunday

PETALING JAYA: A Malaysian serial rapist convicted in Canada, suspected of assaulting as many as 1,000 women and girls, has been ordered to be deported now that his 24-year prison sentence is complete.

Selva Kumar Subbiah, 56, is being held in custody until Sunday when he will be accompanied back to his home country by three guards from the Canada Border Services Agency, according to The Toronto Star.

“You are the worst offender and the highest risk that has ever come before me in my career,” Andrew Laut, who chaired the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada hearing, was quoted as saying by the newspaper on Monday.

Malaysian officials have already approved a flight permit for him, the hearing was told.

There was no mention of whether he would walk free in Malaysia or be turned over to law enforcement officials here.

Selva Kumar was convicted at two separate trials more than two decades ago

Kevin Rojano-Nieto was facing a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years to life in prison for sodomizing the 3-year-old girl in Santa Ana. But the judge said that sentence would be “cruel and unusual punishment” given the circumstances of the case. Judge M. Marc Kelly instead sentenced Rojano-Nieto to only 10 years in prison, causing wide-spread outcry. Orange County officials called for Kelley to resign.

Kelly was ordered to impose the 25 years to life in prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration.

Russian rights activist, historian of Stalin atrocities faces ‘fabricated …

A Russian historian researching Stalin-era repression has been arrested for pedophilia, the prominent rights group he works for said Tuesday, slamming the case as fabricated.

Historian Yury Dmitriev, who studies Stalin’s Great Terror of the 1930s, was arrested on Dec. 13 in the northern city of Petrozavodsk for allegedly “producing pornographic images,” activist Sergei Krivenko of the Memorial rights group said.

“This is a fabricated case that targets our NGO,” Krivenko told AFP.

Dmitriev, 61, heads the northern Karelia region branch of Memorial, an organization focused on researching Soviet repressions and human rights issues in the former Soviet Union.

His lawyer, Viktor Anufriev, told AFP his client is being accused of “exploiting his 11-year-old adopted daughter with the aim of producing pornographic images” — a crime that carries up to 15 years in prison.

Anufriev said Dmitriev had taken pictures in which his

Failure to remove sexual predator cop to cost Milwaukee $2.5 million

The city of Milwaukee’s failure to remove a police officer who, by most any definition, could be considered a sexual predator is going to cost the city $2.5 million in a civil settlement with a woman who was raped by the cop in 2010.

Iema Lemons sued the city of Milwaukee, Police Chiefs Edward Flynn and Nanette Hegerty, former officer Ladmarald Cates and former officer Alvin Hannah in 2013, a few months after Cates was sentenced to 24 years in prison for raping her.

Lemons claimed that Cates responded to her home after she reported it had been vandalized. She said that Cates and Hannah did not address her concerns that a brick had been thrown through her window but instead arrested her brother and placed him in a squad car. While Hannah was in the car with her brother, Cates cornered her
