A man who tried to abduct and rape a 22-year-old stranger as she walked along a Southeast Portland street did the unexpected Friday: He thanked the woman for fighting him off that night.
Just before he was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison for the 2016 attack next to the Eastmoreland Golf Course, David Abraham Marcus commended the woman for her courage.
“Your safety, security and perhaps most of all your freedom were put in jeopardy by my selfish, cowardly act,” Marcus said in Multnomah County Circuit Court. “I can imagine how your life was affected in a variety of different ways because of my actions. But it was not your fault.
“I let myself get to the point where I thought it was OK to rape a woman. But you didn’t let me,” he said. “Your strength and your bravery won out. Thank God they did. Thank God that I was weakened
DAGSBORO, Del. (AP) — A 31-year-old Delaware man has been sentenced to 90 years in prison for crimes including rape and attempted murder committed against a number of women.
The Delaware Department of Justice said in a news release Friday that Temourise Taylor of Dagsboro was a serial rapist who would get women into his car, drive them to a secluded location and sexually assault them while threatening to kill them or physically beating them.
He pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder and no contest to second-degree rape, unlawful imprisonment, strangulation and terroristic threatening.
The department says Taylor will have to complete sex offender treatment and anger management counseling while in prison.
Gubernatorial candidate state Sen. Scott Wagner (R-York) is known for owning Penn Waste, one of Pennsylvania’s largest trash companies. Prior to founding Penn Waste, Wagner spent time as a bail bondsman in York County.
On December 11, 1984 Wagner signed a certification of bail and discharge for Jeffrey Markey as surety. Markey was charged with corruption of minors and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse. Part of Wagner’s job was to ensure that Markey showed up for his trial date.
While he was out on bail on May 30, 1987 Markey is accused of taking a 13-year-old to a park and forcing him onto a bench and performing oral sex on him.
On November 29, 1990 York County entered a judgement against Markey and Wagner “on forfeited bail bond” for Markey missing his court date.
“There are so many testimonies that both the Chilean and the Vatican courts have decided to find the reason for the victims in 2010,” said Claret, a spokesman for Laicos de Osorno. He added that following the Pope’s visit, it was painfully clear that the pontiff was protecting Archbishop Juan Barros, who is accused of aiding and abetting Father Karadima.
“It was confirmed that Pope Francis is defending a bishop who is seriously accused of (covering up) sexual abuse of the greatest pedophile in the history of the Chilean Church,” Claret said.
On his departure from the South American country, the pope finally voiced his opinion on the highly controversial statement, essentially dismissing the

A jury convicted Lamarjrick Malone of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a child under 14 on Jan. 12, 2018. The jury then sentenced Malone to 90 years of confinement. First Assistant District Attorney Will Thompson and Assistant District Attorney Ken Leatherman tried the case in the 13th Judicial District Court.
The jury found that on June 14, 2016, Malone forced himself onto his 7-year-old daughter. This brave young child then called 911 while Malone was in the bathroom after the attack. Even though she was terrified, she still managed to tell the arriving officer what happened to her. The subsequent investigation and DNA analysis found Malone’s semen inside her.
Thompson praised the consummate professionalism of everyone involved in the investigation and prosecution: 911 dispatcher Jordan Bauer, Corsicana Police Officer Joe Aguilar, Det. Michael Dockery, and Forensic interviewer Lydia Bailey. Each of these individuals played a critical role in getting this young child to
Pope Francis accused victims of Chile’s most notorious pedophile of slander Thursday, an astonishing end to a visit meant to help heal the wounds of a sex abuse scandal that has cost the Catholic Church its credibility in the country.
Francis said that until he sees proof that Bishop Juan Barros was complicit in covering up the sex crimes of the Rev. Fernando Karadima, such accusations against Barros are “all calumny.”
The pope’s remarks drew shock from Chileans and immediate rebuke from victims and their advocates. They noted the accusers were deemed credible enough by the Vatican that it sentenced Karadima to a lifetime of “penance and prayer” for his crimes in 2011. A Chilean judge also found the victims to be credible, saying that while she had to drop criminal charges against Karadima because too much time had passed, proof of his crimes wasn’t lacking.
The pope made the comments on Thursday as he brought his six-day visit to Chile to an end. The trip was seen by many as a bid to revive the church’s credibility in the South American country after a sex scandal in which Bishop Juan Barros was accused of concealing the crimes of the pedophile Reverend Fernando Karadima. Barros has denied the claims.
Asked about the allegations against Barros, Francis said: “The day they bring me proof against Bishop Barros, I’ll speak. There is not one shred of proof against him. It’s all calumny [defamation]. Is that clear?”
Karadima was first reported to the church in 2002 over allegations he would kiss and fondle his adolescent parishioners in the Chilean capital of Santiago. An official Vatican investigation was launched in 2010 after his victims went public with their
