Parole denied for accused 1993 serial rapist who can’t be charged

JACKSON, MI – A Jackson prisoner who cannot be charged in connection with a series of sexual assaults from the 1990s due to statute of limitation restrictions will stay in prison for now.

The Michigan Department of Corrections parole board denied parole for Ozzie Worthey, currently in prison for a felony drunk driving charge, MDOC spokeswoman Holly Kramer said.

He will be eligible for another parole board review in January 2019.

Worthey, 51, is believed to have committed a series of sexual assaults in Jackson in 1993 after police connected DNA evidence from five teenage sexual assault victims to Worthey, according to a statement from one of his alleged victims.

The Citizen Patriot and MLive typically do not publish names of sexual assault or abuse victims.

“I hope the parole board decides to keep him for his maximum sentence on the DUI because I get the feeling that’s the only punishment he will ever

Judge: Accused serial rapist poses ‘uncontrollable’ danger

PEABODY — Mark Papamechail’s “propensity for sexual violence against women is uncontrollable,” a Salem Superior Court judge concluded this week.

And it’s for that reason, Judge Timothy Feeley wrote, that there are no conditions that could ensure the safety of the public if Papamechail were to be released on bail.

The ruling, dated Wednesday, means Papamechail, 55, of 4 Stevens St., Peabody, will remain in custody while he awaits trial on rape charges, the latest in a 32-year history of similar sex offenses and other crimes.

On Tuesday, a Middlesex County prosecutor, brought in because Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett once represented Papamechail, argued that Papamechail is simply too dangerous to release.

Papamechail’s attorney, Mark Schmidt, tried to convince Feeley that his client could be monitored by a GPS bracelet and supervised by family members in Peabody if released.

But Feeley pointed to the details of the case itself as evidence that those conditions of
