Judge sentences Jacksonville baby sitter’s rapist to 30 years, sex predator status – Florida Times

A 28-year-old Ponte Vedra Beach man was sentenced to 30 years in prison after a jury found him guilty Thursday of raping a woman who was baby-sitting a 2-year-old in Jacksonville.

Judge Linda McCallum designated Travis Christopher Jakubowski a sexual predator after he was convicted of armed sexual battery and burglary with intent to commit assault, the State Attorney’s Office said.

Jacksonville officers were called to the woman’s Beach Boulevard home about 11 a.m. April 17 after a man forced his way in as she was baby-sitting, police said. Jakubowski attacked the woman with a knife and stripped off her clothes. The woman fought back, but Jakubowski sexually assaulted her, stole some of her belongings and fled.

The woman did not know who he was but provided a detailed description him, while neighbors reported seeing a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck with a

FBI looking for alleged armed rapist with ties to Jacksonville

The FBI is looking for a 46-year-old man who allegedly was involved in multiple armed sexual assaults in Los Angeles and has ties to the First Coast.

Greg Alyn Carlson,46, has been seen in Jacksonville on Nov. 28 and Daytona Beach on Nov. 30 in November 2017. He is considered armed and dangerous.

On Sept. 3, LAPD arrested Carlson for assault with intent to commit rape, burglary, and assault with a deadly weapon (firearm). On Sept. 26, Carlson posted bond and was released.

After he posted bond, Carlson allegedly fled to a family home in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and, sometime after, left there with a stolen handgun, rental car and a significant amount of cash.

Carlson has indicated that he will not return to Los Angeles to face prosecution.

He allegedly fled South Carolina in the stolen rental car. He was seen in Hoover, Alabama, on Nov. 22, and, when police tried to

Sexual Predator Distance Bill Voted Down In Jacksonville Council Committee

A proposal to allow sexual predators to live closer to Jacksonville daycares, playgrounds and parks is not getting strong support at City Hall.  A Council committee Tuesday voted against the idea.

The bill’s sponsor, Councilman Bill Gulliford said the current distance requirement is limiting where businesses can open.

In Jacksonville sex predators must live at least 2,500 feet away from daycares and other kid-focused places. Gulliford wants to reduce that to 1,500 feet.

When the bill was introduced in September, he said it was because a proposed child care center was about 100 feet too close to the residence of a sexual predator.

Tuesday, Gulliford told his colleagues on the council’s Neighborhoods, Community Services, Public Health Safety Committee, his proposed reduction to 1,500 feet  is still a greater distance that what state law requires — a 1,000 foot boundary.

“The real problem is that

Jacksonville Council panel rejects change to sexual predator …

2018 began for the Jacksonville City Council with some holdover business from 2017: a proposed lessening of residency distance requirements for sexual predators.

The bill has been around since September, and is headed toward the graveyard of dead bills. Councilors spiked it by a 2-5 margin Tuesday in the Neighborhoods, Community Services, Public Health and Safety Committee.

Councilman Bill Gulliford, the sponsor of the legislation, said in September that it was driven by two women in Mayport who want to open a day care center. But since it is 2,380 feet from the residence of a sexual predator “as the crow flies,” they can’t. Current ordinance sets a 2,500 foot predator buffer.

Gulliford’s bill would set the limit to 1,500 feet. But this bill doesn’t appear to be headed anywhere.

Councilman John Crescimbeni cautioned that “whittling this down” would create a potential slippery slope of future

Jacksonville to mull sexual predator residency requirements, again …

2018 begins for the Jacksonville City Council with some holdover business from 2017: re-setting residency requirements for sexual predators.

The bill has been around since September, yet — for a variety of reasons — has encountered resistance among Duval’s legislators.

Councilman Bill Gulliford, the sponsor of the legislation, said in September that this legislation was driven by two women in Mayport who want to open a day care center. But since it is 2,380 feet from the residence of a sexual predator “as the crow flies,” they aren’t permitted to, as current ordinance sets a 2,500 predator buffer.

“If you took the over 300 sexual predators in Jacksonville, drew a radius line 2500 feet from their homes,” Gulliford said, “you would blanket the whole dadgum city.”

Gulliford’s bill lowers the limit to 1,500 feet and includes schools also.

In November, the bill got pushback from Council members.
