JERSEY CITY — A convicted rapist accused of raping another woman only nine months after being released from prison rejected a plea deal this morning that would land him in prison for up to 35 years.
Marquis Gilchrist, 32, is charged with the aggravated sexual assault on a 22-year-old woman, whom he allegedly held at knife-point inside her home on Fairmount Avenue on Aug. 13. He was arrested on those charges Aug. 25, authorities said.
Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor John Mulkeen said at today’s hearing that under the state’s offer, Gilchrist would have to plead guilty to two counts of aggravated sexual assault. He would then have to serve 30 years of the prison term before becoming eligible for parole.
Gilchrist’s attorney, Joel Silberman, did not accept the offer and Hudson County Superior Court Judge Paul DePascale said the matter would be referred to the grand jury where the state will seek the
Durban – A serial rapist who pleaded guilty to 26 attacks, has received a 319-year prison sentence.
Bheki Doctor Magwaza, 47, of Waterloo, Verulam, a security guard who raped his victims while in uniform, was sentenced in the Durban High Court on Tuesday.
His reign of terror spanned eight years, from September 2008 to February last year, when he targeted couples in Waterloo and neighbouring areas.
“The accused would instruct the couple at gunpoint to have sex in front of him and when they refused, he threatened the men and raped the women,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane.
The incidents were reported to the Verulam SAPS and transferred to the Phoenix Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, with members from the KZN and national investigative psychology section helping to track down Magwaza.
One victim was able to take down the number plate of the car used by her rapist,
Bowen, of Welshpool, Powys, contacted the children, aged 13 and 15, online. In one message to the older girl, he wrote: “I will f*** you for your birthday present,” Mold Crown Court heard. When police searched his laptop, they found he had told the 13-year old that she was “fit as f***.”
Judge Rhys Rowland said Bowen was “small in stature and emotionally inadequate” as he spared him a jail term, according to The Sun. He had no previous convictions and the judge said that, while what he had done was “very, very wrong,” he would have a very hard time if he was sent to prison.
Bowen was instead handed down a 28-week prison sentence suspended for two years. He will also be registered as a sex offender for 10 years. The judge told Bowen that the girls had “quite enough on their plates” without men like him pestering them and

In both cases, Corrections staff allowed the repeat sex offenders to double-bunk with younger men. One of the rapists, William Katipa, was this morning sentenced to preventive detention – for a second time.
According to the terms of reference for the review, released to RNZ under the Official Information Act, acting chief executive Jeremy Lightfoot asked senior Corrections staff to carry out a review of the risk assessment process.
The terms of reference said there had been “recent incidents” and it had been found that staff did not follow the correct process.
“There have been recent incidents where, upon examination, it is evident that the [risk assessment] process either has not been followed as per policy, or, despite being followed, prisoners’ safety has still
A rapist has complained that he is being “ripped off” when he buys olive oil and tins of tuna or mackerel fillets in jail – after conducting a price comparison survey from his cell.
Adam Marchment, who was jailed for ten years in April last year for raping a 15-year-old girl and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl, said he was sick of paying higher prices than people pay on the outside, reports the Daily Mail.
The 26-year-old carried out “research: from his cell at HMP Parkhurst on the Isle of Wight – which now, along with HMP Albany is called HMP Isle of Wight – even getting a family member on the outside to check prices online and at major supermarkets.
He then compared the prices to how much items cost on the canteen list, which is supplied by DHL.
