Suspected rapist set would-be victim’s house ablaze in Delta

By Emma Amaize

ASABA—A 21-year-old man, Jonathan, has allegedly set ablaze the residence of 36-year-old Joy Godwin of Okuokoko town, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, for allegedly preventing him from raping her younger sister, Mercy, 26.

Vanguard learned that Joy, who demonstrated bravery when the suspect allegedly broke into their home, hit him on the head with a wood, as he attempted to rape Mercy.

Commissioner of Police, Delta Command, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, who confirmed the incident, said the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, was currently handling the case of arson.

He said the complainant told the Police that the suspect “came to knock on her door, but she refused to open the door for him, only for him to jump into the compound through the fence and forcefully attempted to rape her younger sister, Mercy.

“The complainant hit him with a wood on his head and

Woman questioned by her alleged kidnapper, convicted rapist

OAKLAND — A woman who said she was kidnapped but managed to escape in Berkeley earlier this year was questioned by her alleged kidnapper — a six-time convicted rapist — on Wednesday.

Sitting on the witness stand Wednesday at the Rene C. Davidson courthouse, victim “Jane Doe” testified against defendant Whittier Buck Buchanan, 60. In a bizarre scenario, because Buchanan is representing himself in his trial, he’s able to cross-examine the woman he allegedly kidnapped.

Buchanan is charged with kidnapping to commit a sex crime, assault with the intent to commit a sex crime and failing to register as a sex offender after an address change, following the events on May 2 in Berkeley.

The woman, who looked mostly down behind her black thick-rimmed glasses, repeated the night’s events as the jury of seven men and five women listened. On the night of May 2, she was sitting on the front steps of her apartment

Gabrielle Union Reveals She Tried To Kill Her Rapist

In 1992, the actress was working at a Payless shoe store and was raped at gunpoint. In an interview with Nightline, Union, 44,  described how her life was impacted by the assault. “What happened was graphic and violent and life-changing and altering,” she said. “The woman in that back room is dead and I’m the phoenix that rose from the ashes.”

The Being Mary Jane star also revealed that she tried to kill her rapist: “It was literally an out-of-body experience. That me and the me on the ground getting raped became one and I grabbed the gun and I did my best to try and kill him because I really felt I was about to die. So it was either going to be him or me, and it wasn’t going to be me, not on that day.”

We salute Gabrielle Union for telling her story, which

To serve … and endanger? Philly police blunder puts woman on rapist’s radar

It had been a good night. A bit too good, actually.

She’d had too much to drink, after going out with friends to celebrate a co-worker’s birthday. So she left her car and took a cab home.

On her way to the front door, she dropped her purse, and — just that fast — two teenagers on bicycles sailed past, swooping up the purse with her keys, cash, and cell phone inside.

She shouted at them, demanding her purse back. But the thieves had joined a group of about 20 people gathered outside across the street. Some shouted back. Before long, they were on her. Their punches and kicks kept coming until the police arrived.

That’s where it should have ended.

But her night was about to get much worse.

By morning, she would be sitting, half-naked and bloodied, on a stranger’s stoop in an unfamiliar neighborhood. She would shrink from the Good Samaritan who stopped

Why teenage rapist will not be sent to jail

The sentence handed down to a teenage rapist from Plymouth will not be increased after the Government’s chief legal adviser ruled the punishment was not “unduly lenient”.

The 17-year-old youth walked free from court last month with a three-year Youth Rehabilitation Order and six-month curfew – a sentence which was condemned as a “sham” by the victim’s family.

Plymouth Crown Court heard the youth, who can not be named because of his age, raped the girl on the sofa of her own home, after a night out, even though she had repeatedly refused sex.

He initially denied raping the girl between July 27 and July 29 last year but changed his plea at the last moment when the jury had been sworn for his trial.

The Crown Prosecution Service referred then the sentence to the Attorney General’s Office under

Kunene rapist allegedly rapes again, kills

A 37-YEAR-OLD man charged with assault and rape allegedly raped again and killed his victim in the Kunene region on Sunday.

Police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi confirmed the incident to The Namibian yesterday afternoon.

It is alleged that the suspect and the victim, Theodore Uses (56), were drinking together at the Anker settlement, about 65 kilometres from Kamanjab, before he allegedly raped her and then fatally stabbed her in the neck with an “unknown object”.

There are also claims on social media that he attempted to rape another woman on Monday, and also broke into a home on Monday evening.

These incidents were, however, not confirmed by the police.

The suspect is well-known in the community, and already faces two counts of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, and one count of rape, Shikwambi said.

Court records at Outjo show that the suspect was arrested in February this year when he also made

Convicted rapist granted bail after allegedly raping another woman

A convicted rapist has been granted bail after allegedly raping another woman that he approached on a busy, public street.

The Geelong man who was previously jailed for targeting a disabled woman is now protected by a court order suppressing where he now lives in the community.

Victims of Crime Commissioner Greg Davies described it as “an extraordinary set of circumstances”.

The man is aged in his sixties, and is living in Geelong on bail while his case proceeds in court.

9NEWS has been prevented from naming or identifying the man because the court imposed a suppression order protecting his identity, his job and where he lives in the community.

The man cannot be identified for legal reasons. (9NEWS)
He now lives a few hundred metres from a primary school. (9NEWS)

The order also suppresses the victim’s identity, even though the identification of victims of sexual assault is automatically prohibited by law in Victoria.

The suppression

Outrage after plea deal for accused Great Falls rapist

(GREAT FALLS) The plea agreement between Bradley Goodell and the state Attorney General’s office is drawing strong criticism.

Goodell pleaded no contest to one count of sexual intercourse without consent, and guilty to one count of criminal endangerment, on Monday.

Goodell had initially been charged with four counts of sexual intercourse without consent.

The Cascade County Attorney referred the case to the state Attorney General’s office early on in the investigation due to a possible conflict of interest.

The state is recommending that Goodell be sentenced to 10 years, with all time suspended.

Public response on the KRTV Facebook page has been overwhelmingly critical of the plea deal, saying sexual assaults need to be taken seriously.

Others have questioned the reasoning behind the suspended sentence and the decision to go with criminal endangerment instead of a sex crime.

Nichole Griffith, director of Victim-Witness Assistance Services in Great Falls, said, “I think it’s really disheartening to
